Charles Teo was born in Malaysia. He started his creative life of music at a young age, completed several levels of studies, and won a distinguished award at a major arts festival in Kuala Lumpur in 1995. He was awarded the IFPA scholarship and graduated from the Academy in 1999, majoring in Musical Theatre. In 2001, Charles was invited to perform with The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, presenting the Morton Gould’s Tap Concerto, which was broadcasted live on TVB. Between 2002 and 2005, Charles won the 1st Runner-up, the 2nd Runner-up and the Champion Awards at the 14th, 15th and 17th CASH Song Writers Quest respectively. In the same year, Charles produced and released his first music album (EP). Charles has been actively acting as both music and dance director, producing music and shows in various areas including the pop industry, films, theatre, TV commercials and other commercial events. His clients include Adidas, BMW, Cathay Pacific, Chanel, ING, Jardines, Kent, Motorola, Metro Radio, Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Nokia, Now TV, Ocean Park, Pepsi, RTHK, Savills, Star TV, Samsung, Swatch, SHKP, Wal-Mart, W Hotel and Watson. He is also a regular recording artiste singing in TV commercial for McDonald and Coca Cola. Charles was also the music director who arranged and conducted a more than 30 pieces band and orchestra for Louie Castro’s Concert in October 2009. Charles is the course coordinator of the EXCEL One-year Musical Theatre. He is also in the teaching team of the Programme.
