All teachers and assistants of special and mainstream schools, teaching assistants, social workers and therapists of social service organisations will find this course beneficial.

In the USA and European countries, music therapy is practised in a range of contexts including hospitals and within the community by trained music therapists. Music therapy uses music activities as a non-verbal communicative tool to facilitate positive changes in behaviour and emotional well-being.

This course aims to introduce the use of simple music therapy exercises and skills in classrooms/ workshop activities, so as to enhance teacher-student relationships, enabling students and clients with special educational needs to express themselves fully and effectively. Participants will also learn techniques to facilitate positive behaviours and emotions from their students and clients.
Through lectures, demonstrations, case studies, discussions, and musical activities, participants will learn:

  • The basic concept of music therapy
  • Instruments that are commonly used in the therapy process
  • How to use singing and musical activities to develop children’s and clients’ language, movement, cognitive and social skills, to improve concentration and enhance teacher-student relationship
  • How to create and utilise songs along with lyrics in achieving a particular learning or therapeutic objective
  • How to facilitate a musical therapeutic activityParticipants who have attended at least 75% of the course will be awarded a Certificate of Completion.
