Pop Music – Vocal (Age 13 or above)
*Due to Covid-19, the class starts day has been postponed*
Price Tag by Jessie J. The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars. Lego House by Ed Sheeran. Or all-time pop, I Guess that’s Why They Call it the Blues by Elton Jon. Wanna sing them with like-minded people, with a star-quality coach, and sing them well?
Pop music or popular music is a distinct genre that is designed for mass appreciation and has a popular appeal. In the 1960s, pop music charts were inundated by the Beatles, and more recently, Michael Jackson and Madonna have been dubbed as the King and Queen of Pop.
Pop singing techniques can be picked up by novice enthusiasts, and advanced to a professional level, under the tutelage of a good singing coach. This course is designed for any pop music enthusiasts to plunge in and enjoy the vocal expression of popular songs that they so love. The course is not a karaoke session because (a) it is taught by one of our outstanding singing coaches, Berklee College of Music alumni, Freddy AuYeung, and (b) it also covers basic music theory and vocal pedagogy. The course will be conducted in small groups of not more than 10 students so that each individual will have quality learning time with Freddy.
RSL (Rockschool) Awards
Students who have demonstrated talent and skills and aspire to advance to a professional level in pop singing will be recommended by Freddy to enter into the next phase of the course, Pop Music – Vocal – RSL Awards, and prepared for RSL graded examinations. Students will continue to come under the tutelage of Freddy, but will be guided intensively in groups of TWO, following the materials of RSL Award examinations. When a student is recommended by Freddy to take a RSL graded examination, HKAPA EXCEL will assist in handling RSL examination procedures.
