Fundamentals of Sound Technology and Operation offers training in both theory and practice aspects and aims to equip participants with concepts and operation techniques for basic sound systems. 

 

Students will learn different components of a sound system, such as the mixing console, equalizer, effect processor, and others. Participants will also be introduced to the production progress of performance, and how to bring about the best sound effect. Participants will take part in class exercises, which gives them the opportunity to apply theories and techniques leaned in a practical setting. A combined practical class on the actual stage will be offered to students from Stage Lighting Design, Stage Management and Sound Technology and Operation course.**

 

** The practical class will only be offered if there is enough enrollment for EACH course, and the date will be subject to venue availability.

  • Tutor's Profile

    Tutor: Ka Lung Ko

    Ko was graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree, majoring in sound system design. Ko loves working for the music stage and recording studio. Currently, he serves as a producer and sound engineer at 48 Studio, a music production studio established in 2014. He is responsible for sound design, music production, recording, mixing, and rehearsal room monitoring mixing. In addition to 48 Studio, he also works for many local recording studios including 117A Studio and Goo Music Studio.

     

    Outside of the production studio, Ko also works for live mixing, monitor mixing, online streaming mixing and recording for different music performances and venues. Performance productions include "Subyub’s Concert 2024", "Candy Lo’s Concert", "Endy Chow's The Journey Begins World Tour Concert in UK and Taipei" , "Let It Snow C AllStar Live 2022" and "Chill Club Annual Recommendation 22/23", etc., and music recording and mixing production units include CHOR, Endy Chow, Pong Nan, Whizz, The Hertz , Cozy Syndrome, Lolly Talk, etc. In addition, he has also done on-site recording, post-production sound adjustment and mixing work for a number of music program productions. The programs include "Chill Club", "kkbox Billboard", "Music Panda" and "Guk Live Studio live", etc.

     

    In addition to production, he is also active in audio education. He worked as a technical coordinator in the Department of Culture, Art and Creativity at the Education University of Hong Kong, and led students in the college's productions to perform tasks such as sound design, live mixing, recording, and stage management. He is now the guest lecturer in the school's audio class. In addition to working at the Education University of Hong Kong, he is also a guest lecturer at the School of Stage and Theater Arts of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, cultivating a new generation of local artistic and cultural talents.
