Heidi Yu Hiu-Tung

Throughout her dance career, Miss Yu has experienced various roles that contributed to shape her as a holistic artist. As a dance student she was under rigorous ballet training in professional arts school, her hard work was recognised by the outstanding performance and results she received in numerous international ballet competitions, including Prix de Lausanne. Later on, she was invited to dance with Houston Ballet, performing in various productions and touring with the company in North and Central America. She also performed in contemporary dance productions in Hong Kong, where she developed her teaching career at the same time, training children, pre-professionals and adults.

Miss Yu’s interest in bringing a scientific approach to traditional ballet training has driven her to pursue further study and research, encouraging her to study a Master of Fine Arts in Dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and after its completion, with the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund, a Master of Science in Dance Science at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, the world’s leading institution for dance science research. Since her graduation last year, her MSc thesis study  paper has been accepted to be presented in the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science conference in Montreal next December.

Promoting a holistic approach to a healthy dance practice has been the aim of her teaching in recent years. Miss Yu is passionate to put the knowledge and skills she has learnt and experienced into practice, sharing it in classes and workshops. She believes in dancers as “artistic athletes”. By optimising the dancer’s potential as an elite performer through areas such as physiology, psychology, nutrition and biomechanics, she is willing to nurture the next eminent dance generation in a healthy, injury free, and individualised training environment.
